Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial for Airbnb guests. Many guests will plop down on the bed to test it out as soon as they arrive. They’ll let you know if the beds are too hard or too soft, preventing them from sleeping well. And, if they really get a good night’s sleep, they’ll brag about it in their reviews. Trust me, when it comes to your Airbnb mattresses, you don’t want to mess it up!
And while choosing the right mattress is crucial, getting a great night’s sleep doesn’t stop with the mattress itself. Read on for the perfect mattress, sheets, pillows, and everything else you need to create luxurious, 5-star beds at your Airbnb.

The Best Mattress for a 5-Star Airbnb
Mattress
Having a comfortable mattress in every bedroom at your short-term rental is something that just can’t be overlooked. Unfortunately, most Airbnbs fall flat in this area.
Many Airbnb mattresses are so soft they cause back and neck pain. Some are so firm they make your guests feel like they’re not sleeping on a mattress at all. While others are too bouncy, squeaky, or have painful pressure points.
If you end up with a mattress like any of those, trust me–you’ll hear about it from your Airbnb guests!
After a lot of trial and error, I’ve found that memory foam mattresses are the biggest crowd-pleasers with Airbnb guests. But not all memory foam mattresses are created equal. Some are way too expensive, some are way too firm, and some don’t hold their shape over time.
THIS memory foam mattress solves all of that. It’s inexpensive, so you can happily buy one (or two!) for every single room in your Airbnb. Many people love this mattress (check out the reviews!) AND it holds up well over time–win, win, win.
Plus, a memory foam mattress is a strong signal that your guests will have a great night’s sleep when they stay with you. Highlight it on your listing!
Airbnb Hosting Tip: While this perfect low-cost mattress is the way to go for most short-term rentals, I personally have this high-end mattress in the primary bedroom at my Airbnb and it gets rave reviews. This isn’t a must-do, but investing in a super high-quality mattress for the primary bedroom could be worthwhile since it’s likely that the guests planning the trip, paying for the trip, and leaving you a review will sleep in that room!
Other Airbnb bedding must-haves
Bed bug protectors / Mattress protectors / Pillows / Duvet inserts / Duvet covers / Mattress / Sheets
Mattress Protectors
Buying just a mattress isn’t enough. I’ve heard horror stories about unbelievable messes Airbnb guests left in their beds (I’ll spare you the details). Lessen the impact of these disasters and protect your investment with these must-have mattress protectors.
Pillows
Nothing’s worse than sleeping on an overly stuffed, flat, or clumpy pillow and waking up the next morning with neck pain.
Avoid giving your guests a literal headache (and the complaints that come along with it!) by providing these fluffy, comfortable, and low-cost cooling pillows on every bed.
Airbnb Hosting Tip: You may have heard that pillow protectors are essential to keep your pillows clean and bed bug-free. But pillow protectors tend to be costly and uncomfortable. Instead, I recommend simply washing your pillows when you visit your Airbnb for property maintenance.
Duvets
Traditional comforters are very hard to wash, making them a poor choice for your Airbnb. Opt for duvet covers and duvet inserts instead, because you can easily throw several duvet covers in the wash between guests.
Your guests will love that these all-season duvet inserts are thick and fluffy without being too hot. Add on these beautiful and soft duvet covers for the perfect pairing.
Airbnb Hosting Tip: Just like your pillows, be sure to wash your duvet inserts when you visit your Airbnb for property maintenance. I also recommend keeping one backup of each duvet insert size stored in a vacuum bag in your supply closet. That way, if you ever need to replace a duvet, you don’t have to go without one while a new duvet insert gets delivered.
Sheets
Finding the BEST sheets for your Airbnb can feel like an impossible task. Your guests expect them to be high-quality, comfortable, and soft. At the same time, you need them to be inexpensive, so that replacing your sheets when they inevitably get stained is stress-free.
Thankfully, this perfect sheet set checks ALL the boxes. Trust me, I get compliments on these exact sheets all the time!
And, since Airbnb sheets get stained easily, you should expect to replace them several times a year. I highly recommend having three backup sets, so your cleaners can quickly swap ruined sheets with new ones.
Airbnb Hosting Tip: Another can’t-miss detail at your Airbnb is cleanliness, which guests care a lot about. Make sure your bedding instantly looks and feels clean by choosing white sheets for all your beds.
Box springs
Ideally, you’ll save money by buying a bed frame that doesn’t require a box spring. But, if your bed frame does require one, these box springs are relatively inexpensive, easy to assemble, and hold up well.
And you don’t want to draw attention to your box springs. Cover that weird off-white fabric with a nice, crisp, fitted sheet instead. This super inexpensive purchase will instantly elevate your Airbnb bedrooms.
Airbnb Hosting Tip: Be sure to test your box springs for any squeaks during your property maintenance checks.
Takeaway
I hope this Airbnb checklist saves you tons of time setting up your Airbnb. (Congrats, by the way! Starting your first Airbnb is a HUGE accomplishment!)
